Qualifying for SR&ED doesn’t necessarily require your product to be unique. What matters more are the underlying processes that enable your product or service to function, and how you’ve managed to get to that solution. You could have a similar product to a competitor but if the method you’ve used to develop your product is different, and if you’ve had to go through your own trial and error to find the solution (since the solution wasn’t publicly available) then it’s likely you can claim.
Understanding your SR&ED eligibility can be confusing and vary drastically from project to project. Follow our SRED guide to find out more about SR&ED tax credits or contact us to speak with a specialist and find out if your project qualifies.
